We had our first doctors appointment last week. Talk about nervous! We didn't really know what was going to happen, and since every doctor is different, we were told different stories from all our friends. But, we composed ourselves and off we go. Let me start by saying, the doctor is great. He is personable, friendly, straight forward, and has a clean office. What more could you ask for?
As we sit in the exam room, anxiously awaiting his arrival, we can't help but giggle. I think I was giggling out of excitement and Wes out of sheer nerves. I tend to forget that this is uncharted territory for Wes. He's never been in "a woman's exam room". He was seeing tools, machines, and pictures of things he has never seen before! Then in walks the doctor. He kind of looks like an older guy who back in his youth used to surf and never tuck his shirt in. But, none the less, he is a doctor. We researched the diplomas on the wall before he entered. I was hoping for a Harvard grad, but he'll do.
On to the exam. I'll skip the details, but the coolest thing did happen. Just as I thought Wes was going to have to excuse himself for looking a little green, the doctor says, "Well, look here -- you see that flashing light on the screen? That's your baby's heartbeat." Then, just like in the movies, Wes grabs my hand, and we smile with misty eyes, giggling once again.
Its the real deal, we have the pictures to prove it. We gathered our things, scheduled another appointment, and went back to our daily work. What a lunchbreak that was!
