Hospital VIP...

We had our most recent doctors appointment yesterday. They did the regular check up (blood pressure, weight, measure the belly, listen to heartbeat -- all good) and then threw in an ultrasound to take some more measurements of the baby. You see, about a month ago they did an ultrasound to determine how the baby was growing - and baby came in at about 5.5 lbs. At that time, it put the baby in the 75th percentile of growth - and the doc was afraid I was going to be delivering a whopper. Great. But, yesterday - the baby measured at 6.5 lbs and was in the 50-60th percentile for this time frame... the doc says this was good, and the baby probably just had its first growth spurt in the womb! Haha! So, I've currently got a 6.5 pounder with the potential to grow 2-2.5 more lbs in this last month! So, we'll see!

Everything else looked great and now we get to go once a week for a check up until the baby is born!! The time is near!

By the way -- did I mention this is going to be my first overnight hospital stay - ever. That makes me a little more nervous than the actual giving birth thing. But - luckily we found out something that will make delivery and my stay there not so bad... Our hospital allows laboring moms to have as many popsicles as they want. POPSICLES!!! The good 'ol fashioned ones like you used to get at the pool each summer. Red, Orange, Grape... you all know the ones! This was music to my ears since I currently have a box in our fridge that has been my late night snack during pregnancy. Lucky girl.

We graduated with honors.

So we finished our Childbirth Preparations Class this past week. I am very glad we took it, and do feel pretty good about the actual process. So, thats it right? We are experts? While I'd like to think I am "all knowing" in the subject of childbirth (seeing how I took 4 whole classes) I have a feeling I am not. Anyone reading this have any last minute advice?? I mean, we are getting down to the nitty gritty... 5 weeks (give or take)!!

Oh - and yes, we did watch *the* video. You know the one. The grand finale to the class. Well, surprisingly, not that bad. Wes did great and I think actually feels good about what is about to occur. Its actually pretty amazing when you think about it - bringing a life into the world. I can't wait.

Ask and ye shall receive...

It's okay...

- to cry when the buffalo got skinned in Dances with Wolves.
- to put your pajamas on as soon as you get home from work.
- to be a little sleepy after only being up a few hours.
- to eat 2 cookies instead of just one.
- to clean eveything in sight.
- to feel bad for the horses that don't win the Derby.
- to wear flip flops with your dress clothes.
- to sit down while everyone else stands.
- to go to bed at 8:30.
- to ignore advice.
- to be so excited you can barely sleep.

Pucker Up!

We had another appointment yesterday! After what seemed like the world's longest wait in the waiting room (due to the doctor being called into surgery), we were in. Blood pressure = great. Baby's heartbeat = 140... loud and clear, so loud in fact, the machine was vibrating! Belly measurement = just right... whatever that means.

Next, the ultrasound. The doc checked Baby Baker out, and said everything looked wonderful! Then he focused in on the face for a bit and the baby turned and looked directly at the "camera"!! A star is born! (it takes after mama -- I was never afraid of the camera) The doctor giggled and pointed out that the baby has beautiful lips (that's from daddy, i think)! As we watched a little hand come up to its cheek and the knees still nicely tucked in, I realized how close I am getting! This is the real deal! It appears to weigh about 4.5 lbs right now, and we are looking at probably an estimated 8 pounder come delivery time. Unbelievable.

Then last night, we had our first of 4 "Childbirth Prep" classes. Well - if that wasn't quite the experience. Don't get me wrong, I (MM) find it very helpful, and some of my concerns were already put at ease in just the first class... but boy, I saw Wes's eyes get mighty wide at some points. I think it will be good for him in the long run. The first true test will come if he can make it through the video in class #4... we all know the video I am talking about. Any class is a good class in our books that offer cookies and fruit during the break!

Well, next appointment is in 2 weeks, the 15th. I will go every 2 weeks for the next 2 appointments, then I start going once a week until this baby comes!
